Block Captains,

Thank you in advance for volunteering for the Rossmoor Neighborhood Watch program. This program is organized, funded, and supported by the Rossmoor Homeowners Association. Attached are the forms that will assist in being an organized Block Captain and allow you to include as many of your neighbors as possible on your block.

Attached are 4 simple forms to assist you in organizing your block: Block Participant Roster, Participant Sign-up Sheet, Block Captain Intro Letter, and the Block Captain Duties. Feel free to use these forms as necessary to keep your block organized. If you have ideas on changes to the forms or ideas about anything to make our NW program more efficient, please share with me so we can share your ideas and best practices.

5 Simple Steps to start your block:

  1. Print off the forms for your block - additional copies can be obtained from the Rossmoor Park office, contact me to schedule a pick up

  2. Walk around your block house-to-house and inform your neighbors that Rossmoor now has a high-tech NW program and sign them up using the Participant Sign Up Sheet. If they are not home leave behind a completed Block Captain Intro Letter and a Participant Sign Up Sheet.

  3. As you collect the Participant Sign-Up Sheets, fill in and maintain your Block Participant Roster. You can maintain this roster either on your computer or in hard-copy form.

  4. Add your block participants to your email address book

  5. Forward on NW updates and important communications regarding your block as appropriate. Remember use this distribution list for NW and appropriate Rossmoor information ONLY. If people are sent too much information or if the Block Captain forwards on personal emails, our participants will feel that sharing their email address was a mistake. By minimizing communication and making it easy to share info via email, we can maximize participation and minimize the workload.

Not everyone is required to sign up because our NW program is completely voluntary, but only those that have signed up will receive our NW updates, warnings, etc. via email or other distribution system for participants without email access.

We will be having a NW Kick Off Meeting in the next couple of months. This will give you time to get around your block and get as many participants as possible. After the Kick Off Meeting we will start having local NW Block Meetings on whatever topics your block is interested in including general crime prevention, elderly home safety, and updates on recent scams such as "phishing".

Please email me that you have received your forms and you are ready to move forward. I will then maintain a list of active Block Captains and send you a specific map for your block. I look forward to your constant feedback and together creating a NW program that strengthens our ability to keep connected and minimizes crime in Rossmoor.

Thank you,
